had gone to escape persecution of their religious beliefs. The early refugees settled in and around ManakinTowne near Richmond, VA. William wrote his will Apr. 25, 1754 and it was probated June 13, 1753. Albemarle Co., VA Will Book 2, page 13 & No. B pp 20, 336

William Witt mentions Benjamin in his will. He bequeathed "unto my beloved son, Benjamin, a grey mare, a great bible, one pewter basin, wrought silver plate and one half of my wearing clothes."
Benjamin was a member of the Virgina House of Parliament. He first settled in Prince Edward Co. VA. There was a manor house and other buildings on this estate. It was later sold to Jeremiah Hardwick and Thomas Gibson (Deed Bk #5-Pr Edw. Co., VA) Names of brothers Benjamin, Charles and Lewis appear on several deeds, which substantiates another proof that Charles was the son of William. (from Shirley Dal Pozzo)
