She left school in the 4th grade to help her mother at home.  She was a housekeeper in the early part of her life.  This included working in a rectory.  She later worked in the tea room and the cafeteria of a hospital.  She helped raise Dorothy's family in Chicago and also helped other family members at births and illnesses.  She would visit Margaret and Lawrence yearly in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She died in Columbus Hospital due to complications from surgery.  She was a strong person and whenever she and Conrad were together they butted heads.

He was in the U.S. Army for 17 months during WWI.  He was in the infantry.  When he got out he became a painter.  He painted houses and he did oil paintings. While he was doing the painting with the wild flowers, he had trouble with bees trying to get to the flowers. 

He was also an Interior Decorator.   The last known locations of the three paintings which always hung in the cabin in Wrightwood are as follows:  I have the one with the wild flowers and the mountain scene.  Matt Glomb has the picture of the bridge.  William L. Glomb has the one of the world's fair.

He received a Life Saving Award for saving the life of a child while he was a Scout Leader.   

He is buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery Plot 191, San Fernando, California.

Notes for NAWANA LEE DOUGLAS:

Her mother had moved to Dallas, Dallas County, Texas to live with her Aunt Levada, just a few months before Nawana was born.  When she was about four months old, her Grandfather Douglas, decided it was time for her and her mom to move back home.  So he hitched up the wagon and drove to Dallas, to pick them up.  According to her Aunt Nellie, when they arrived home they laid Nawana on the bed and they said that she looked just like an Indian baby.

Her biological father was named Harrison Stubbs.  (Her mother, Inez,  had told me the name of Nawana's real father in June 1992.)  Her mom married William Andrew Cook when Nawana was about four years old.  He was the only father she ever knew.  She never met her real father, however she did see him a few years before her death.  She lived in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas until shortly after she got married.  Her husband was in the military and they had to wait a short time before she could join him.  

She was baptized into the Catholic Church shortly after marring her husband. She knew it was important to Bob, so she went through all the training and became a Catholic as a special gift to him.  It was a complete surprise to him. 

She died of Cancer of the Pancreases on February 6, 1976 at the age of 42 years, 10 months and 19 days.  She is buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, San Fernando, California. 

Her husband had told her that if she ever wanted to talk to him from heaven, to do so with colored lights.  On the day of her funeral, there was a rainbow which led the procession all the way from Victorville, San Bernardino County, California to San Fernando,  Los Angeles County, California. Her family believed that it was her way of letting them know that she was with them.
