Notes for CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS COOK:

This story was told to me by Maryse Underwood on May 25, 1992.  It was verified by Orville Cook in an interview.

Christopher Columbus Cook was born in Missouri in 1844.  He was in a Captain in the Arkansas Militia during the Civil War on the Confederate side.  He lost his right eye when he was stabbed with a bayonet at the Battle of Vicksburg.

After the war he went to work for the Railroads selling merchandise on the trains.  In 1929, he went to Texas with William and Ester Mary, who were going to see President Hoover get elected.  Christopher had voted for Alfred E. Smith.  He got in an argument because he lost the election.  He asked William and Ester to take him to Union Station and he went to St. Louis.  He never returned to Texas.  In March 1936, he slipped on some ice and broke his hip.  He died two weeks later.   He was 96 year. He is buried at the St. Louis Memorial Park in Missouri.
